Are You Salty?

Salty can describe a variety of contexts, from culinary to emotional. In culinary terms, salt is a fundamental ingredient that enhances flavors and preserves food. The right amount can transform a dish, highlighting textures and balancing sweetness or acidity.

Emotionally, being "salty" often refers to an attitude characterized by irritation or bitterness, typically in response to a perceived injustice or disappointment. It conveys a sense of frustration that can manifest in behavior, ranging from passive-aggressive comments to open confrontation.

Today, I am referencing the fact that Jesus has commissioned us to be “Salt” in the earth. Salt here, refers to the Godly influence that preserves the souls of men. In this case Jesus is sending us out to preserve life in the earth.

Matthew 5:13 (KJV)

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Are you preserving life? Everywhere we go we must bring Jesus with us. You may be the only Jesus that people get to see. When you enter an environment, are you preserving people, as Jesus commanded you to? Can people see light when you walk into the room? We must be salty. So many lives are waiting on us to be salty. There are people who do not even know that they need your saltiness. If your salt loses it savour you will have no impact. I have never experienced salt that is not salty. I can’t even imagine a rock of salt, that is not salty. That is an oximoron. Yet, so many of us can become good for nothing, because we allow our light and authenticity to become watered down. We don’t represent God well.
God expects His ambassadors to represent Him well. It could mean the difference between life and death for so many people. Don’t be the salt that becomes worthless. Let your saltiness shine through, everywhere you go. Add that flavor! Add that zest! Go forth and be Salty, for real!
